What Claude Duet Actually Does
The pitch is an agent that works with you throughout the day—not just when you remember to open a chat window.
- Daily briefs surfacing what needs your attention
- Connected app monitoring to track activity across your tools
- Task execution including building dashboards, scheduling meetings, and generating financial forecasts
- Async operation — it keeps working when you step away, then checks in before acting on your behalf
That last point matters. The “checks with you before it acts” framing is a deliberate design choice, positioning Duet as a careful collaborator rather than an autonomous executor.
Where It Fits in the Agent Landscape
Anthropic is being direct about the positioning: Claude Duet is built for the workplace. Personal errands—booking tickets, that kind of thing—are acknowledged as “not quite as strong.” That’s a notable admission, but also a reasonable tradeoff. Staying focused on professional use cases lets Anthropic compete on the turf where it already has enterprise credibility.
Meta’s Muse leans consumer. OpenAI’s Dots straddles enterprise and consumer. Claude Duet is staking out the professional and small business lane with more specificity than either.
In the broader agent landscape, that workplace-first positioning is the main differentiator.
The Honest Caveats
Anthropic is upfront that Duet is early-stage. The company notes it “might misread a thread or miscalibrate what’s urgent.” That’s a refreshingly candid disclaimer for a product launch—and a useful signal for anyone evaluating whether to join the preview.
Early access is available to Pro and Max subscribers via a standalone app or the Claude website.
Who Should Pay Attention
If you’re a professional or small business owner already using Claude, this is worth joining the waitlist for—especially if you’re spending meaningful time on scheduling, status tracking, or recurring reporting tasks. The daily brief and dashboard-building features alone could justify the overhead of setting it up.
If you’re currently evaluating Dots or Muse, Claude Duet gives you a third data point with a cleaner workplace focus. The real test will be how well it handles the “checks with you” loop in practice—that’s where agentic tools tend to either earn trust or quietly get turned off.
