A practical takeaway
If a health system treats AI in patient access as a cost-cutting project, it may get some efficiency gains. But if it treats AI as a way to reduce friction across scheduling, referrals, and coordination, the upside is much larger.
The useful question is not “How do we make the call center cheaper?” It is “How do we make it easier for patients to actually get care?” That is where AI starts to become operationally smart, commercially relevant, and meaningfully better for patients.
