What’s New
Meta has rolled out a set of Instagram creation tools specifically designed for its AI glasses, covering three main areas:
- New capture modes — including an immersive video format that expands as viewers tilt their device, giving footage a more spatial, first-person feel.
- Multi-cam recording — syncs video from both the glasses and a user’s phone simultaneously, letting audiences see two perspectives at once without a complicated setup.
- Glasses-specific editing tools — new options inside Instagram for revising and polishing footage captured directly from the device.
These features were previewed back in June. The September push appears to be about awareness — getting existing glasses owners to actually use the more advanced capabilities.
Why It’s Interesting for Creators
The multi-cam feature is the most practically useful update here. Syncing a wearable POV with a handheld shot is the kind of dual-perspective storytelling that previously required either a dedicated crew or a lot of post-production stitching. Doing it natively inside Instagram lowers that bar considerably.
The immersive capture mode is more experimental. It’s genuinely novel for conveying spatial context — think travel, live events, or anything where “you had to be there” is the whole point. Whether audiences actually engage with tilt-to-expand video at scale is still an open question.
The Problem Meta Can’t Edit Out
The creator tools are real. So is the backlash.
Reports have surfaced of users disabling the glasses’ recording indicator light to film people without their knowledge — with footage ending up online without consent. Regulatory investigations have been opened in multiple regions. In London, protest posters appeared in the Underground with messaging that was, let’s say, direct.
Meta has stated it’s working to address the concerns and hasn’t reported a measurable sales impact. But the gap between “powerful creator tool” and “surveillance device with a social feed” is exactly the tension the company is navigating right now.
The Practical Takeaway
If you’re a creator already using Meta AI glasses, these updates are worth exploring — multi-cam in particular adds genuine workflow value for anyone doing POV or event content. If you’re evaluating whether to adopt the hardware at all, the privacy controversy isn’t just a PR problem; it’s a signal about how the product is perceived in public spaces, which directly affects how and where you can use it comfortably.
The tools are getting better. The context around them is getting more complicated.
